Cost per mile calculator
See what each mile costs you to drive, and what each paid mile has to cover once you allow for empty miles between jobs.
Reading the result
- Per mile, all miles spreads your weekly costs over every mile you drive.
- Per paid mile spreads the same costs over only the miles with a passenger, so it is always higher. It is a useful floor when you judge a fare.
- If you leave weekly fuel empty, we estimate it from UK mpg (4.546 litres to the gallon) and your pence per litre.
Not tax advice. This is not the HMRC approved mileage rate and says nothing about what you can claim. It uses only the figures you type in, assumes costs are even week to week, and leaves out operator commission and tax. Your figures are saved only in this browser.
Next: the break-even calculator turns weekly costs into the fares you need. Choosing between petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric? The running-cost comparison uses the same fuel arithmetic side by side, and the Congestion Charge and ULEZ estimator adds the London charges. See what the costs mean for tax in the tax set-aside calculator.
